The Dominion Radio Astrophysical Observatory (DRAO) in Kaleden offers a unique opportunity for families and curious visitors to learn about space, science, and astronomy. During guided tours, visitors can learn about the powerful radio telescopes used by scientists to study the universe and monitor activity from space. Knowledgeable guides share how the observatory contributes to important research and explain how signals from distant parts of the universe are detected and studied.
Guided tours run on Saturdays and Sundays throughout the season, generally from April to late October and last approximately one hour. Admission is free and tours operate on a first come, first served basis.
Because the observatory uses extremely sensitive equipment, all visitors must turn off all electronic devices.
Tours may occasionally be cancelled due to weather conditions or poor air quality, so it’s always a good idea to check conditions before visiting.
