W.J. Tuey Regional Park
W.J. Tuey Regional Park is a peaceful riverside spot just a short drive down Waterwheel Street, which turns into a dirt road. It’s a popular hangout for locals looking to cool off, with a small sandy beach and grassy areas offering partial shade from tall trees.
There’s a spacious parking lot and a simple swing set with two traditional swings — a nice option for younger kids. While dogs aren’t allowed in the main park area, there is a designated dog-friendly zone to the west.
The river can look calm, but it’s important to be extra cautious. The current can be strong, and there are sudden drop-offs. The beach is unsupervised, so supervision is a must for anyone entering the water.
While enjoying the park and beach, please:
– No dogs or horses allowed in the main park – designated dog area to the west
– No overnight parking or camping – park gate closes at 9 pm
– The beach is unsupervised – swim at your own risk
– Walk your tube back to town (10 min walk) instead of parking a return vehicle at this location
– Do not attempt to float to Grindrod (10–12 hour float)
