Meadowlark Nature Festival: The Wonders of White Lake Tour – Kaleden

Event Description

Join Anona Kampe, Penticton Indian Band member in the Okanagan Nation, and Lisa Scott, professional biologist and director of the Okanagan and Similkameen Invasive Species Society, for an exploration of the beautiful and significant landscape surrounding White Lake. Anona will explain the importance of the land to the syilx Okanagan people since time immemorial.

Participants will learn about local plants, harvesting practices, animals and landforms, and Anona will share the Okanagan language called nsyilxcn and translations in English. Lisa will provide information on important conservation and invasive plant work being done in the basin to protect a myriad of species and ecosystems at risk. In the spring grasslands there will be wildflowers, lots of song birds including canyon wrens and bluebirds, birds of prey, and possibly snakes! Suitable for ages 8+.
