The Log Barn 1912 is the perfect family-friendly place to stop for food, drinks, shopping and photos. You can even feed the goats during your visit, which is a favourite for the kids.

Location

If you are driving through Armstrong you cannot miss the Log Barn 1912 along the side of the highway. Four cut out goats running on the rooftop along with many other statues on the grounds will catch your attention.

This tourist attraction is located at 4782 Highway 97A. It’s a 20-minute drive from Vernon and just a few minutes before Enderby’s Starlight Drive-In Theatre.

Feeding the Goats

When you make the stop at the Log Barn 1912, the first thing the kids will want to do is feed the goats.

Make sure you have some quarters on hand. This is what you will need to purchase feed out of an old candy machine.

Next, take your feed to a cup (there are two to choose from) and fill it up. At the top, a goat will anxiously be waiting for you to finish filling up the cup.

Once the cup is full, watch in amazement as the goat uses it’s mouth to turn the wheel to bring up the cup of food (you’re making them work for it!). Log Barn 1912

The goat will quickly gobble up all the food, then they will send the cup back down for you or someone else to fill it up again. The kids will have so much fun feeding the goats they won’t want to leave.Log Barn 1912

Another way to feed the goats is to put the food you have purchased in one of the pans available outside a fenced off area holding goats. Simply hold out the pan and the goats will enjoy.Log Barn 1912

Tips & Tricks

  • When you are pulling into the driveway, be sure to watch for kids
  • There are quite a few parking spaces available, although I’m sure they fill up quickly
  • Bring some quarters to buy feed for the goats
  • Hand sanitizer is available outside, although I recommend bringing wet wipes
  • Washrooms are available – you will have to walk around the outside of the building down a path
  • If you arrive later in the afternoon, it’s not as busy and the lighting is great for taking pictures
