Renovated Rooms
The hotel has recently been renovated and we love staying in the ground-floor courtyard rooms with two queen beds. The kids can easily access the courtyard from the patio door where they can easily access the playground.
Please note, that the front section rooms have showers, and the back section rooms have bathtub/shower combos.
Each room comes with a mini-fridge, Keurig machine, and TV. You can request a playpen if you have babies or toddlers – there is no extra cost for this request. While there is no microwave in the room, you can request one for a minimal charge.
If you are planning a longer stay, the One Bedroom Kitchen Suites are great because they have a full kitchen with everything you need. Overlooking the golf course, the separate bedroom is nice for privacy and the kids can sleep on the pull-out queen bed in the living room.
The Courtyard – Playground, Yard Games, and More!
What makes this property so unique is the area they call the courtyard, the centre of the hotel. It’s a large grassy area, beautifully landscaped with a variety of different trees and plants.
Here the kids can run around and play one of the many yard games on site. Games such as giant connect-4, giant jenga, ladder ball, tetris, and a cornhole game are set up during the summer. The playground is nestled in between games where the kids will enjoy the slide.
Outdoor Pool & Hot TubÂ
A highlight of our stay at The Balcomo – A Ramada By Wyndham is the outdoor pool and hot tub. Lounging around the pool is the favourite activity of choice several times throughout the day. The pool starts shallow at 2 feet 6 inches and goes up to 5 feet 6 inches, which our girls love.
There are lounge chairs, tables, chairs, and umbrellas for shade on the pool deck. The kids like to walk back and forth from the hot tub to the pool and can spend hours in this area which we love because we want to tire the kids out so they sleep well.
The pool is open from May Long weekend to September Long weekend, weather-dependent (call to confirm when booking), while the hot tub is open year-round.
Dining Options
For breakfast, we usually make cereal. Another option is to head over to Riverside Plaza, which is across the street from the hotel. The Plaza includes Starbucks, Booster Juice, A&W, Cobbs Bread, Quality Greens, Dominos Pizza, T-Bones, and Subway to name a few. Tim Hortons is also across the street if you want to grab a quick breakfast. Â
For a sit-down breakfast, walk 350-metres from the hotel and you will arrive at the Blue Heron Restaurant at Penticton Golf & Country Club. The fantastic breakfast offers good-sized portions, and reasonable prices while taking in amazing views of the golf course. As a family, we like how spacious the restaurant is, with plenty of tables to choose from.
Visit the Balcomo’s on-site restaurant, Local Public Eatery. Here you can choose from pizzas, to burgers, to salads – dine-in or take-out. They also have a kids’ menu available. In the summer months, you can sit on the patio while the kids play with the yard games available in the courtyard.
Wellness Centre
The Wellness Centre at the Balcomo includes a sauna, cold plunge pool, indoor hot tub, salt studio, and a meditation and relaxation room, all included with your stay.
The salt studio and meditation room are a quiet area for adults.
Hotel Amenities Â
The hotel offers amenities such as complimentary parking, free wi-fi, an air pump, washer and dryers, barbeques, and a fitness centre. Their fitness centre includes an elliptical, treadmill, stationary bike, and free weights. It’s a small room, but it offers the basic equipment to get a good workout in.

All in all, this hotel is a great family vacation if you are visiting from out of town or a staycation if you are lucky to call the Okanagan home.
