The Gellatly Nut Farm Regional Park in West Kelowna has been on our family bucket list for a while. Last fall, the girls and I brought our own bags and made the drive to West Kelowna.

We were surprised at how beautiful and large the park was and that it included a small beach, playground, and picnic tables.

If you are driving from Penticton, follow Highway 97 to Gellatly Road South and take the Glenrosa Road exit. Follow Gellatly Road South until you see Whitworth Road, take a right and you will arrive at the parking lot.

From Kelowna, drive across the bridge and follow Highway 97 for approximately 12 km. Turn left onto Gellatly Road and right on Gellatly Road South until you reach the Cove Lakeside Resort. Once you reach the Resort, turn right onto Gellatly Road South and take a left onto Whitworth Road.

Nut Harvest

Gellatly Nut Farm, West Kelowna

The nut harvest takes place from September to mid-November, as the nuts ripen, they will fall off the trees. Varieties grown include hazelnuts, walnuts, buartnuts, and chestnuts.

The nut sales booth is usually open Monday to Friday from noon to 4 p.m., but it’s best to check ahead before visiting. Outside of their posted hour, nuts can also be purchased by depositing the payment into the red payment box outside their heritage house with all proceeds going back into the upkeep and maintenance of the park.

Tours

Gellatly Hertiage Nut Farm, West Kelowna

Each Fall, the Regional District of Central Okanagan offers tours at Gellatly Heritage Nut Farm.

In this behind-the-scenes tour, you will look at the nut harvest process. Afterward, you can harvest one pound of nuts for a set amount with the proceeds going to the Gellatly Nut Farm Society.

More information on the tours and availability can be found in the Regional Parks Fall Guide.

Playground

To my surprise, there was a playground near the water with benches, picnic tables, and washrooms nearby.

The girls were of course excited to be near the lake, so we walked out and skipped some rocks into the water.
