Sun-Oka Beach Provincial Park is known as one of the more popular beaches in the South Okanagan.
Here you will find a beautiful sandy beach stretched on Okanagan Lake, a playground, fire pits, picnic tables, drinking water fountains, a dog beach, watersport rentals, washrooms and change rooms.
The swimming area is nice and sandy and is marked with buoys for safety.
Location
Sun-Oka Beach Provincial Park is located just off Highway 97, between Penticton and Summerland.
When you turn off Highway 97, you will drive down a small hill to ample parking. Some of the parking stalls are shaded by large trees. The morning is the best time to arrive to get the perfect spot.
The Beach
As you approach the beach you can understand why this a popular destination for locals and tourists alike.
A number of picnic tables (100 according to BC Parks website) are available for use, both on the beach and in the grassy areas of the provincial park.
Another great feature of the beach are plenty of shady areas, especially under picnic tables.
We choose the same spot every time, under a few larger trees and close to picnic tables if needed.
Concession Stand
The concession stand carries a variety of different food and treats if you decided not to pack your own. Hot food options such as burgers, poutine, wraps, fries and onion rings are available.
We enjoyed some Canadian Poutine and a hamburger while we were there. Later on we purchased a few ice cream treats for the ride home.
Beach Rentals
Okanagan Beach Rentals is located on the south end of the beach across from the playground.
They offer non-motorized watercraft rentals such as kayaks, stand up paddleboards, pedal boats, water trikes, canoes and inflatable islands.
Washrooms & Change Rooms
The newly renovated washrooms and change rooms are available in a centrally located building on the beach.
For the women, there were 5 (I believe) change rooms located on the left hand side and 4 washrooms located on the right hand side.
Playground
The playground is located across from the beach and watersport rentals. Designed for children ages 5-12 years old, my girls which are 2 and 4 years old still thoroughly enjoyed it.
The playground offers a slide (very hot in the sun), monkey bars and various climbing features and spinning seats throughout.
They loved all the different rope features they they could climb on and through.
You can see here that the playground is located right across from the beach. The watersport rentals was located just to the left of this picture above and below.
